Mental health counseling works to help restore a state of well-being and provide the tools to cope with various struggles that life can bring. Having someone else to talk to other than a family member can provide a sense of comfort especially when dealing with emotional distress. Counselors will work closely with the clients and their parents/ guardians to provide the best possible tools to ensure a plan for success to ameliorate this emotional distress or behavior problems. This would include but is not limited to, behavior modification, de-escalation techniques, and school success. Counselors will also work with parents for parent training to continue the treatment plan while in the home. The ultimate goal of counseling is to establish mental equilibrium in order to live the best life possible.
